Corn planting slightly behind normal pace in Iowa
Wet conditions slowed planting progress across parts of Iowa last week.
USDA’s latest weekly crop report says corn is 49 percent planted, which is three days ahead of last year but two days behind the five-year average.
Corn is 10 percent emerged as of Sunday.
North Iowa farmer Rusty Olson tells Brownfield warmer weather forecast this week is welcome.
“We were doing some tile repairs on Saturday and boy some of that water coming through the tile line was really cold, so these ground temperatures still could use a little warming up. But it’s ideal for planting right now, the conditions are really nice.”
Soybeans are 38 percent planted, one week faster than a year ago and two days ahead of the usual pace.
Oat seeding reached 91 percent, with nearly 60 percent of the crop emerged.
