Corteva outlines benefits of a soil test
An agronomy specialist says growers should consider conducting some soil tests this spring.
Andrew Luzum with Corteva Agriscience says soil fertility needs to be a priority. “When we pull soil tests, we’re actually pulling a lot of 12 inch cores. Easy process to do. Just go out and pull a sample. The idea there is you can look at Iowa State’s benchmarks and see how much nitrate and how much ammonia you actually have left in the soil.”
He tells Brownfield soil tests help farmers make balanced decisions that support crop production. “My recommendation is to be looking at it and maybe that will help guide your rates of how much sidedress you’re going to be putting out versus just throwing a blanket rate out there.”
Luzum says a nitrogen stabilizer could help growers make the most of out their spring applications.
He spoke to Brownfield at the 2025 Commodity Classic.
