Cotton hauling legislation passes MO Legislature
The Missouri Legislature has passed a bill that would update state policy for hauling cotton.
State Senator Jason Bean is a sponsor of Senate Bill 28 and tells Brownfield there are new guidelines on securing cotton bales.
“Most of these loads are only being taken a very short distance from the field to the gin, so we just tried to make it easier.”
Bean says the bill also increases the speed limit for cotton trailers.
“Before, cotton trailers were only allowed to go 45 miles-per-hour and now, they’ll be able to move up to 75 miles-per hour.”
The bill would also repeal requirement cotton trailers can be used for exclusively hauling cotton.
State lawmakers passed the bill last week and it’s now with Governor Kehoe. If signed into law, it would go into effect ahead of cotton harvest in late August.
