County ARC payments likely in 2025
Many producers are likely to see federal farm program payments this year.
“ARC payments are likely in ‘25.”
Paul Mitchell, director of the Renk Agribusiness Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison says many farmers were plagued by drought in 2024.
“There were some dry counties last summer in different parts of the nation.” He says, “If your county is one of those, you’re likely to receive some modest, not giant, but some modest ARC payments.”
In a recent Science for Success webinar, he says the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) payments are also being triggered by lower commodity prices.
“Given those prices and the way the ARC program is set up, if your county has even modest declines in yields, like 4% for soybeans and corn, once you start going beyond that 4%, you’re going to be trigging ARC payments in your county.” He says, “Wheat it’s only three percent.”
Mitchell says qualifying producers should see the 2024 ARC payments arrive this fall.
The deadline to sign up base acres for 2025 ARC or PLC coverage is April 15th.
