Craig unsure how CR negotiations will play out
Members of Congress are unsure how the final hours of the lame duck session will play out.
U.S. Representative Angie Craig tells Brownfield she’s hopeful a Continuing Resolution that includes stop-gap government funding, an extension of the current farm bill, and supplemental financial assistance for farmers can be agreed upon.
“Communication between Speaker Johnson and Hakeem Jeffries has resumed, which is good.”
The Minnesota Democrat says the next strategy appears to be reauthorization of the farm bill within the Continuing Resolution, and the House voting individually on other measures like disaster relief and economic assistance for farmers.
“The question is, is the Speaker talking to Hakeem Jeffries about it? Because I think he’s going to need Democratic support to get each of those items across the finish line, and if they’re just talking among themselves then I think they’re going to continue to fail.”
Craig was recently chosen to become Ranking Member of the House Agriculture Committee in the next Congress.
