CREP expansion coming to Indiana
The director of the Indiana State Department of Agriculture says the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program is expanding.
Don Lamb says the program benefits farmers.
“Farmers are the best environmentalists. Farmers want to do what’s right for the environment,” he says. “There are times because of the cost of things that it just becomes really cost prohibitive to be able to do the very best practice that might be available.”
He tells Brownfield federal funding helps make this possible.
“A lot of it does have to do with things like creating wetlands and things that would really help with that water quality aspect,” he says. “Some practices are fairly simple when it comes to grassed waterways where you truly can set aside more acres to be able to to justify doing that.”
ISDA Director Don Lamb and Indiana FSA Executive Director Julia Wickard made the announcement in a signing ceremony at Zolman Farms in Pierceton, Indiana. Zach Ducheneaux, the FSA Administrator, was also in attendance.
