Crop conference underscores need for clearer pesticide strategies
Pesticide application strategies are a focus at this year’s Iowa State University Integrated Crop Management Conference.
Wesley Everman, ISU Extension weed specialist, says clear communication is key when formulating application plans to help avoid pesticide drift issues.
“I think the applicator should work with who is making the recommendations selling the product, and with the landowner if it’s rented ground or if you’re doing custom application.”
During a panel discussion, Everman said fields need to be evaluated sooner rather than later.
“To do these points, put in these buffers and put in these mitigations, have that all planned out by April so that everybody knows the gameplan.”
