Crop development ahead of curve in Iowa
Corn and soybean development remain slightly ahead of normal in Iowa.
USDA’s latest weekly crop update says corn silking hit 85 percent this week, two days ahead of the five-year average. Two percent has hit the dent stage, with 77 percent in good to excellent condition.
Soybeans blooming reached 83 percent, one day ahead of the usual pace. Seventy-six percent of the crop is called good to excellent.
The oat harvest for grain advanced to 67 percent, and the second cutting of alfalfa is nearly 90 percent done.
