Crop exceeding expectations, Iowa farmer says

Southwest Iowa farmer Duane Aistrope says his 2024 crop has exceeded expectations.

“I had heard some stuff from some guys that got started early and I thought there’s no way we could have 70-bushel beans. And, we’ve had some right around that area.”

But he tells Brownfield yields have been lower in some of his fields. “In the high 50s, which is not terrible, but it’s not what I expected from some of them.”

Aistrope says it’s been an extremely dry fall after experiencing wetter-than-normal conditions in the spring. “The forecast says there’s no rain for the next 10 days.”

Aistrope raises corn and soybeans near Randolph in Fremont County.
