Crop losses could push feed costs higher

Crop losses from heavy rains and flooding could push feed costs higher for livestock producers.

Rachel Gray with Little Timber Farms in north-central Minnesota says while hay conditions look good.

“I think (the adverse weather) will impact feed prices into the fall and of course, the winter. So that is one thing that I’m watching.”

She tells Brownfield there will likely be a lot of prevent plant in northern Minnesota.

“I just drove by some fields that are under water, (and) we had an unpredicted storm come through our home and had about 100 acres of hay down, which is now floating.”

Gray says an inch and a half of rain fell in about 45 minutes during that storm.
