Crop Progress shows strong emergence, mixed conditions

The USDA says all of the nation’s corn crop has been planted and soybeans aren’t far behind.

According to Monday’s Crop Progress Report, 94% of the U.S. corn crop has now emerged with 68% of the crop in good to excellent condition.

Soybean planting has reached 95% completion, which is just ahead of the five-year average of 93%. Eighty-eight percent of the crop has emerged and the crop is rated 66% good to excellent.

The winter wheat harvest moved higher despite rain events in some key growing areas. The harvest is now 25% done, up from 11% the previous week. Twenty-seven percent of the crop is in good to excellent condition.

Spring wheat condition is rated 55% good to excellent, up from 52% the previous week, which 6% of the crop headed and 95% emerged.

Cotton is 86% planted, just shy of the five-year average, with 19% of the crop squaring and just 2% setting bolls.

U.S. rice is rated 70% good to excellent with 8% headed and 98% emerged.

Sorghum is 68% planted, behind the five-year average of 71%.

Pasture and range conditions are rated 32% good to excellent, up from 31% the previous week.

The USDA’s national weekly crop progress and condition reports are scheduled to run through the end of November.
