Crop rotation change not market driven
A north Iowa farmer says changes to his crop rotation are not market driven.
Casey Schlichting of Clear Lake tells Brownfield he will be planting a few more corn acres this year.
“That was not a price thing, that was a field that does not like to grow soybeans. So I’m going to try corn-on-corn on that field.”
He says tight margins could influence ag input decisions during the growing season.
“The only decision that I’ll probably make conditional upon (finances) is late-season fungicide and if we have any issues in the corn and what the potential on the crop is.”
Schlichting received his 2025 seed Friday but says conditions aren’t yet fit to begin fieldwork.
