The dairy herds are growing in the United States and Canada.
This week’s National Ag Statistics Service report shows Canadian milk cows and heifers that have calved are up 2% as of July 1st to more than 454-thousand animals compared to about 447-thousand a year ago.
In the U.S., dairy cows and heifers that have calved total 9-point-4 million animals. USDA statistics for 2016 were not listed, but its 100-thousand more than 2015.
Overall cattle numbers are up, with much of that increase attributed to expanded U.S. beef herds.
