Dairy farmers educating during Illinois State Fair

Kendra Anderson - Midwest Dairy

A farmer relations specialist with Midwest Dairy says events like the 2025 Illinois State Fair are an opportunity for producers to educate consumers.

Kendra Anderson says the home of the world-famous “Butter Cow” is the perfect place to teach people about dairy.

“It’s just amazing how far removed they are from agriculture.”  She says, “They don’t know how modern our dairy barns are.”

She tells Brownfield that animal health is always a hot topic.

“One of our dairy farmers recently said you can’t take milk from a dairy cow. She’s got to give it to you.”  She says, “So, a happy cow is a productive cow. And so just letting consumers know that it really is in the best interest of everybody to take great care of those cows.”

Anderson says serving up the education with a milkshake or scoop of ice cream from the organization’s Dairy Goodness Bar hopefully makes a lasting impression.

The ribbon cutting to open the 2025 Illinois State Fair takes place Thursday morning.  It runs through August 17th in Springfield.
