Dairy Task Force supports 7M in research funding
Wisconsin’s Governor-appointed Dairy Task Force voted to support asking the state to help restore more than seven million dollars in funding to the University of Wisconsin dairy sciences programs. Shelly Meyer from Professional Dairy Producers is on the task force and tells Brownfield more research is needed for production, animal health, product development, and more. “We are the hub in which the rest of the world looks to for dairy knowledge because we lead in research, but we have been losing for the last twenty years dollars that would fund positions that actually do the research.”
Meyer says putting money back into dairy research would be a good investment. “We’re hoping that money would come from the state and that they would re-invest in an industry that’s a 43-billion dollar economic hub.”
The state’s Dairy Task Force will continue exploring ways to improve the dairy economy in 2019.
