Data management platform helps farm succession planning
Farmers can utilize technology to make succession planning easier.
CEO of Oaken Shashi Raghunandan, a cloud-based landpartner application, says if farmers wait too long to discuss succession planning it puts their legacy at risk.
“You’ve built a farming business for the last 20 to 30 years and then it as it comes to transition, which is a natural thing to do, you’re not doing it in a proper way and it could lead to your farm not being stewarded well by the next generation.”
He says farmers should ask themselves what would make the transition easier.
“The next generation is ready for that digital transition to happen. It’s not just a farm transition, it needs to happen with the information that the farm came with and they need to see it in a way that they are used to.”
Missouri Soybean Association Director of Farm Operations Clayton Light tells Brownfield, “I’ve seen a lot more interest in some of those platforms to help farmers manage their systems and just make it more efficient with their time and dollars.”
Stangler interviewed Clayton Light and Shashi Raghunandan at the Missouri Soybeans Ag Innovation Field Day in Columbia, Missouri.
