Deer depredation a concern for Minnesota State Cattlemen’s Association
Deer depredation is a concern for beef producers in Minnesota.
Minnesota State Cattlemen’s executive director Kaitlyn Root says the Association has been talking to the DNR and Department of Agriculture about the issue.
“Last year was horrible for deer depredation in Minnesota, we had a lot of producers sending in photos and videos of hundreds of deer eating their forage.”
She tells Brownfield deer can pose a health threat to cattle.
“It’s a disease concern, so we’re really pushing for the DNR to be managing their deer herd.”
Root says the association is also asking that producers be financially compensated for lost forage.
