Developing strategies to support U.S. agriculture

The America First Policy Institute says that its Farmers First Agenda will develop bold strategies to support farmers and rural communities.

Former Ambassador Kip Tom is vice chair of the rural policy. “We will advocate for pro-farmer policies and push back against burdensome regulations,” he says.  “Work to expand international trade opportunities that benefit our producers.”

During a call with reporters Wednesday, Tate Bennett, director of rural policy, said there are specific actions policymakers can take to help drive rural prosperity.  “Including passing pro-Growth, pro-America tax policies that incentivize greater investment in rural America and enhance the ability for family farms and rural businesses to pass their operations from one generation to the next,” she says.

Bennett tells Brownfield the Farmers First Agenda also prioritizes the reorientation of federal programs to make food prices more affordable, which also includes improving the management of animal disease outbreaks. “We were pleased to see USDA’s five-pronged plan come out in February,” she says. “We’re curious to see how that is implemented prospectively. They seem to be holding themselves accountable and really going full speed ahead and working hard to particularly lower egg prices.”

Christie Mullin, wife of U.S. Senator Markwayne Mullin, is the AFPI chair of rural policy and Sarah Frey, CEO of Frey Farms is the senior advisor for rural policy.

The America First Policy Institute was founded by current Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins.
