DG Fuels selects Nebraska for SAF production facility
A U.S. owned sustainable aviation fuel company has selected Nebraska for its first Midwest production facility.
DG Fuels announced Wednesday plans to produce 193 million gallons of zero or low carbon emissions fuel per year at a facility in Phelps County. Gov. Jim Pillen tells Brownfield it’s a big win for the bioeconomy.
“There were 10 states and once we were able to get in front of that company and show them what we have in Nebraska it was clear. He came to Nebraska,” he says.
Nebraska Ethanol Board executive director Reid Wagner says Nebraska is well positioned to support this kind of facility.
“You can make it a few different ways but it really all comes down to being from agricultural products, those renewable feedstocks that we have in plenty here in Nebraska,” he says.
According to the company’s website, DG Fuels’ manufacturing process uses cellulosic biomass, in the form of lower-value agricultural by-products such as corn stover, as its carbon feedstock. It also incorporates different forms of clean hydrogen feedstock to produce near-zero carbon fuel.
Production is expected to begin in 2030.
