Diesel price outlook amid cooler temperatures

A fuel economist says diesel prices have increased across the U.S.

Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, says the price jump is a seasonal shift. “As we see diesel demand going up from agriculture season and harvest happening, we’re also seeing heating oil use start to go up as temperatures cool off. That is why we’ve seen diesel prices jump up a bit.”

He tells Brownfield many farmers have already locked in their diesel supplies for the 2025 growing season. “The perfect time was late September or early October, but now is still not a bad time. Having said that, I think November and December you’re going to see diesel prices trending up.”

De Haan says some farmers could wait until late winter or early spring when heating oil demand softens.
