Domestic demand, trade among top priorities for new Iowa Pork President

The new president of the Iowa Pork Producers Association says sustainable domestic demand is a main priority for hog farmers 2025.

Aaron Juergens manages more than 100,000 nursery and finishing pig spaces for Sunburst Valley Farms near Carroll. “We’ve got a good product, and we just want to create long term sustainable domestic demand and that’s something we’ve had all hands on deck for. We’re making strides.”

He tells Brownfield ag policy is another concern. “We’ve been on the Prop 12 thing, so we’re waiting for a farm bill to go through on the national level, but we’re always working on small little details. There are issues every day that we’re going to be on top of and we’re just going to work through the things that come our way.”

Juergens says he also thinks 2025 will be a strong year for trade. “We got into some of these markets where we’ve had some lower cost product, and the good thing is we’ve been able to hold those trade partners.”

He says IPPA will work the new Trump administration on advancing trade priorities for the pork industry.

Juergens spoke to Brownfield at the 2025 Iowa Pork Congress in Des Moines. The interview can be heard below.
