DowDuPont seeking to connect to consumers
The head of DowDuPont’s ag division says their merger is allowing for a new kind of ag company.
James Collins told attendees of last week’s USDA Ag Outlook Forum he believes the combining of Dow and DuPont will bring innovation to benefit both producers and consumers. “The bottom-line here is that scale supports innovation and innovation is going to allow us to help our customers increase yield to meet that growing demand that we know is out there, but doing it much more sustainably and responsibly.”
He says consumer interest in food is at an all time high with 90 percent of people wanting food that promotes “wellness,” but they don’t understand the economics of food production. “While people scorn pesticides, we believe the reasons they do so is because they don’t fully understand the link between crop protection and food safety and food security.”
Collins says reaching consumers through social media and with key influencers will help connect them with the science of food production.
