Drier pattern and crop stress

Much of the Corn Belt is locked in a drier pattern, “We do anticipate, not only the dryness issues and a flash drought that is getting underway but I think as maybe a side bar to that is the lack of growing degree units. So, it’s another weather element that has really cursed this growing season,” says Brownfield meteorologist Greg Soulje.

“We’re getting social media reports coming into the weather office here of cracked grounds and leaf wilt even with temperatures just in the seasonal low to mid 80 degree range.”

And Soulje says hotter weather IS coming, about the middle of August.

The only bright spot he sees for farmers is an early frost is NOT expected but a later one is.
