Drive to Feed Kids comes to MO capitol
State lawmakers packed 10,000 meals as part of the Drive to Feed Kids at the Missouri capitol on Thursday.
“Needs are all around us and it doesn’t take a lot to do.”
Missouri Farmers Care Executive Director Ashley McCarty says this is an effort to address food insecurity.
“Our goal is to stand in the gap for those who don’t see agriculture’s abundance in our farm fields reach their dinner tables. We want to stand in the gap of that disparity so children can thrive and learn and we have vibrant communities.”
She says thousands of Missouri children are food insecure.
In addition to packing meals, McCarty says Missouri Farmers Care grants money to organizations, families and leaders who want to participate in the Drive to Feed Kids to address food insecurity in local communities.
“We have seen them make mobile food pantries and some have hunger dinners. Others pack meals in different parts of the state impacted by disaster and some process poultry or purchase milk.”
