Drone data breach concerns
The vice president of Indiana Farm Bureau says farmers are becoming more concerned about drone data collection.
Kendell Culp says while drones have increased efficiency on the farm, data breaches are a growing concern for farmers.
“We’re spraying with them and we’re seeding with them, but they could still be very dangerous,” he says. “It hasn’t been too many years ago that these were brand-new technology and not many individuals or organizations had a drone. We’re continuing to improve those with more opportunities.”
He tells Brownfield producers have also expressed concern about drones being used for surveillance.
“There’s been a lot of concern, especially in northeast Indiana with avian influenza, about people seeing drones or some sort of aircraft in the vicinity,” he says.
As technology continues to evolve, maintaining data security and privacy are critical to its continued use in the industry.
Brownfield talked to Culp during the 2025 Indiana Ag Threats and Security Summit.
