Drought continuing to impact Kansas harvest

Dry conditions continue to impact corn and soybean harvest in Kansas.

According to USDA’s weekly crop progress report, 53% of corn is harvested, ahead of the 39% five-year average, with 37% of the crop in good to excellent condition.

Corn mature was 92%, near 91% last year, and ahead of 83% average. Harvested was 53%, ahead of 47% last year and 39% average.

Soybeans are 11% harvested, behind 20% last year but still near the 12% average, with 73% dropping leaves, ahead of the 63% five-year average.

Winter wheat is 32% planted, equal to both last year and the five-year average, with 10% emerged, also near the 11% five-year average.

Sorghum is 17% harvested, ahead of the five-year average of 11% with 39% of the crop in good to excellent condition, with 95% of the crop coloring and 60% mature.
