Dry conditions continue to impact South Dakota crops, pasture

Dry conditions continue to impact South Dakota.

Topsoil moisture is only 24% adequate and 47% short with 29% of farmland very short on moisture.  That lack of moisture is taking a toll on pasture and range land.  Only 17% of the pastureland is in good condition, with 30% rated fair, 32% poor, and 21% rated very poor.

Ninety-six percent of the state’s sorghum has been harvested, slightly ahead of average.

Eighty-nine percent of the sunflower crop has been harvested, which is ahead of the average.
