Dry conditions improve, MO drought alert stays in effect
Despite the recent rains, Missouri Governor Mike Parson says he’s not quite ready to lift the drought alert, in effect until September 1.
“We’re still getting rain in July, which is very unusual for our state,” he says. “If you look at the weather map, there’s 10 to 15 days of nothing to speak of when it comes to storms or rainfall. It doesn’t take long for Missouri to be in drought.”
The U.S. Drought Monitor shows continued improvement in Missouri’s drought conditions. In the last week, the moderate drought creeping into northeast and southwest Missouri has minimized to abnormally dry conditions.
Missouri’s drought assessment committee is scheduled to meet Friday, July 19 to review the drought situation.
