Dry weather keeps harvest momentum rolling

The ongoing dry weather has allowed Kentucky farmers to continue to make significant harvest progress.

Corn harvest is 87 percent complete, and soybeans are 64 percent harvested.  Tobacco is 40 percent stripped and 35 percent of house tobacco is rated good to excellent.

Winter wheat is 47 percent planted and 22 percent emerged.  Seventy-seven percent of the crop is rated good to excellent.

The lack of moisture has taken a toll on pastures, just 2 percent are rated excellent, while 64 percent are rated fair to good.

Topsoil is 60 percent short to very short and subsoil moisture is 55 percent short to very short.
