Dryness adding up in eastern Iowa

An eastern Iowa farmer says he’s concerned about dry conditions in his area.

Lance Lillibridge tells Brownfield, “We’re extremely dry here. We need rain and we need sunshine. This haziness is not helping us whatsoever.”

He says it’s had an impact on crop conditions. “Things look okay,” he said. “I’m not going to say it’s fabulous in my neighborhood. We’ve got some pretty decent looking corn, and we’ve got some corn that needs to get to the nitrogen.”

Lillibridge says as he waits for timely rains, weed control is another focus. “There’s a lot of fields that I look at and I’m just like ‘I’m not sure why I’m out here.’ They are just clean as a whistle. But I’ve got a few other places that we’re seeing some weeds that we have never seen before.”

Lillibridge raises a corn-on-corn rotation near Vinton in Benton County.
