E15 bill introduced in U.S. House

A bill has been introduced in the U.S. House that would enable year-round sales of E15 fuel blends nationwide.

A bipartisan group of lawmakers, including Representatives Adrian Smith (R-NE), Angie Craig (D-MN), Dusty Johnson (R-SD), Nikki Budzinski (D-IL), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA), and Sharice Davids (D-KS),have co-authored the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act.

Iowa farmer Kelly Nieuwenhuis serves as a member of the Corn Board for the National Corn Growers Association. He tells Brownfield the legislation is a positive step forward to securing a long-term E15 solution.

“We’re hoping we can move the needle and get this year-round E15,” he said Friday morning. “This is something we’ve been working on for 10 years now. It’s time to get it across the finish line. With our excess corn supply today we need some market drivers to help grind more corn.”

The lawmakers say the bill is the House companion to a similar measure in the Senate that was introduced by Deb Fischer of Nebraska.
