Early harvest exceeding expectations in NE Illinois
An agronomist with Beck’s Hybrids says many farmers in his area are seeing exceptional early yields.
Chad Kalaher, who’s territory covers northeastern and east central Illinois, tells Brownfield…
“On soybeans, early maturity early planted fields, yields have been really in a range from 70 to 100 on field averages.” He says, “Corn yields have been very good, maybe not record-breaking this year compared to last year on some fields, but in some places there will be.”
He says the good crop is due to low stress and ample moisture for most fields.
“A lot of it has to do with product advancement.” He says, “We keep seeing that bushel gain every year. And I just think this year we had the right timing. The timing of the rainfall came just at the right time.”
Kalaher says he expects yields from later planted crops to be somewhat lower due to the dry finish to the growing season.
