Early-planted soybeans becoming the new standard, BASF agronomist says

An agronomist based in southern Illinois says the practice of planting soybeans early is becoming more widely adopted.

Mike Probst is with BASF.

“It’s probably been one of the most significant cultural practice shifts that I’ve seen since I’ve been working in the industry.”

He tells Brownfield the adoption of early planting has been rapid.

“Almost unanimous. And I think growers are just at the point where they cannot deny anymore the yield benefits they are seeing from planting early. And I think what’s probably amazed me more is how much people are willing to push the limits now.”

Probst says there are farmers planting soybeans in March if conditions are fit.
