Eastern Iowa farmer starts soybean harvest

Eastern Iowa farmer Jeff Pape started soybean harvest Wednesday.

“Yields are decent, anywhere from some timber fields that don’t get good sun and are on sand ground that ended up about 63 (bushels per acre). The next field that’s decent is probably running low 70’s (for yield), but they’re dry.”

The Dyersville corn and soybean grower tells Brownfield crop moisture is under than 10 percent.

“And the other farms are probably five days behind, so this rain will be fine. It can come through and we can get ourselves back up to moisture and get back at it.”

Pape says corn in his area is probably three weeks from being ready to harvest.
