Efforts to increase interest in ag education

A student at Ohio State says there’s a rising interest in students wanting to pursue a career in ag education.

Mallory Kramer says Teach Ag Ohio is helping students find careers beyond the traditional ag pathways.

“They just think it’s taking your animals to fair, but really you’re advancing your leadership skills, getting involved by taking projects from the agri-science fair, and learning about everything under the sun,” she says. “It’s definitely good for those younger ones. They are the ones that will be more excited and are more likely to stay for years to come.”

She tells Brownfield there is a need for more ag teachers across the state.

“We’re getting these students out here and getting that bug in their ear about what ag education is and what the college opportunities are,” she says. “2% of our industry is ag and we really need more students to get into it.”

Teach Ag Ohio supports both college students and teachers by providing access to educational resources and professional development opportunities.

Brownfield interviewed Kramer during the 2025 Ohio FFA State Convention.
