Egg production up in December

U.S. egg production ended 2025 on a solid note.

The USDA says 9.125 billion eggs were produced in December of last year, a little bit above December 2024, with a better average rate of lay canceling out a slight decline in the number of layers.

The number of egg and broiler type chicks hatched during December also saw year-to-year improvements.

Placement numbers for future hatchery supplies were mixed, implying a rise in egg-type production in 2026 and a contraction in broiler-type production.

The USDA’s next round of supply and demand estimates is out February 10th.
