EPA issues nationwide E15 emergency waiver

The EPA is issuing an emergency waiver to allow the sale of E15 nationwide during the summer driving season.

Administrator Lee Zeldin says the announcement shows President Trump’s commitment to farmers and the Renewable Fuels Standard.

Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor thanks the administration for moving quickly to remove what she calls a “needless barrier” between Americans and lower-cost fuel.

“EPA’s decision will put more American fuel in the marketplace. It will allow Americans to spend less of their hard-earned money at the pump this summer. It will give fuel retailers the clarity and certainty they need, and it will protect a critical market for American farmers.”

She says with a temporary waiver in place, E15 supporters in Congress and the White House can focus on passing permanent legislation that provides unrestricted access to E15.

American Coalition for Ethanol CEO Brian Jennings tells Brownfield a congressional fix has never been closer.

“It may not seem that way to your listeners and to advocates of ethanol at the grassroots level because the progress doesn’t seem to be as noticeable, but I can assure your listeners that we have more bipartisan support than ever before in Congress.”

Renewable Fuels Association CEO Geoff Cooper says RFA applauds President Trump and Administrator Zeldin for acting quickly to combat potential fuel shortages and help keep a lid on gas prices this summer.

Currently, E15 cannot be sold from terminals in about half the country from May 1st through the middle of September.
