EPA says label reviews help keep crop protection tools available

A regional EPA administrator says the agency is working to ensure farmers don’t lose access to effective crop protection tools.

Region 7’s Jim Macy says EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention has been reviewing thousands of labels since the administration took office. “We had about 14,000 new label requirements that we had to go through to make sure that farmers had the right tools in the tool box and those tools are safe to use for the environment and the farmers along with doing their job.”

He tells Brownfield, “We’ve been working really hard doing that and going through label requirements to make sure that the chemical products are advertised the right way and used the right way. They need to be safe for the environment and for the people that use them.”

Macy says keeping pesticide labels current is an important part of ensuring products remain safe, effective and available to producers.

EPA Region 7 includes Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri.
