EQIP signup for organic producers
USDA is opening up a three-week signup period for organic farmers to get EQIP funds to help in the transition to organic production. The funding was contained in the 2008 Farm Bill however there was some confusion with the way the rules were initially stated. This announcementallocates $50 million of the $1 billion EQIP funding to be used for converting farms to organic, expanding organic production or for support to help existing organic farms attain higher levels of environmental performance. Funding is capped at $20,000 per farm per year and not more than $80,000 perfarm in any six-year period. The signup period runs May 11th through May 29th.
