Ethanol continues to create demand opportunities for Missouri corn farmers
The president of the Missouri Corn Growers Association says protecting the ethanol tax credit is a priority for members. Matt Lambert says the credit is for retailers selling between 15 and 85 percent of ethanol blends. “It does a lot of good things,” he says. “We’ve got a fuel here in Missouri, that is a renewable fuel, that we can grow on our farms and sell within our borders. Anytime you can do something like that, I think it’s a positive thing.”
He tells Brownfield the Biofuels Infrastructure Incentive Program through the Missouri Agricultural and Small Business Development Authority is good for Missouri farmers. “Those help increase the use of the biofuels, biodiesel and ethanol in our state, which is a renewable fuel source,” he says.
Lambert says creating demand opportunities is crucial in today’s ag economy. “We’ve got a large crop, and commodity prices aren’t the best that they’ve been, and we would like to see that higher,” he says. “Input costs are higher.”
