Ethanol exports continue upward trend, RFA says

The chief economist for the Renewable Fuels Association says U.S. ethanol exports have been on a strong upward trajectory over the past several years.

Scott Richman tells Brownfield, “We had by far a record year in 2024. We thought that was a pretty good level of exports at about 1.9 billion gallons. We broke that record in 2025 by a considerable amount.”

He says 2026 is already off to a fast start.

“We’ve gotten over 200 million gallons of ethanol exports in each of the first two months of the year. That’s all of the official data we have.”

Richman says Canada remains the top customer of U.S. ethanol.

“They have actually increased their purchases this year. Ever since they put into effect clean fuel regulations, it had been a good market for years and now it’s our strongest market.”

He says Canada purchased nearly 800 million gallons in 2025.
