Ethanol industry celebrates strong markets, record output

The U.S. ethanol industry is celebrating some milestones in 2025.

Renewable Fuels Association president Geoff Cooper says a record amount of ethanol has been produced this year.

“It has been quite a year for the ethanol industry, and I think I’d start by saying just what a great year it’s been in terms of market fundamentals and what’s happening in the ethanol marketplace.”

Speaking to Brownfield during the National Association of Farm Broadcasting Convention in Kansas City last month, he said production eclipsed 16 billion gallons this year amid strong demand.

“And much of that strong demand is being driven by what we’re seeing in the export market. We’re expecting record exports by far, probably 2.4 billion gallons. And that essentially means one out of every seven or eight gallons of ethanol we’re producing today is being exported.”

Cooper says domestic demand will grow if Congress passes year-round E15 legislation.
