Ethanol production, stocks below previous week

U.S. ethanol production fell to a more than six-month low last week.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says production averaged 1.012 million barrels per day, a decrease of 9,000 on the week and the lowest since the week ending September 20th, 2024, partially due to seasonal maintenance. That was still an increase of 29,000 on the year.

Iowa State University’s Center for Agricultural and Rural Development says the estimated operating margin for the average Iowa plant moved back to the breakeven point.

Ethanol stocks of 26.814 million barrels were 220,000 less than the previous week, but 734,000 more than a year ago.

The Renewable Fuels Association says net inputs of ethanol purchased by refiners and blenders and the volume of gasoline supplied to the market were both above the prior week.

Ethanol exports averaged 137,000 barrels per day, a drop of 37,000 from the week before and 38,000 from this time last year.

The USDA expects 5.5 billion bushels of corn to be used for ethanol production this marketing year, with an updated guess out May 12th.
