European cherry fruit fly quarantine in NY county

USDA APHIS has set up a quarantine in a New York county for European cherry fruit fly (ECFF).

Part of Niagara County, New York is quarantined for the invasive pest which is the most serious pest of sweet cherries in Europe.

County residents are urged to consume homegrown cherries on site and not move them out of their properties – also keeping soil underneath the dripline of an ECFF host plant in place to prevent the spread of the larvae.
