Evaluating fungicide efficacy with new tool

An extension field crop pathologist at Purdue University says a new resource could help farmers determine the best fungicide for their field.

Darcy Telenko says the Fungicide Efficacy Tool uses data from corn, soybeans, wheat, and alfalfa.

“A grower can go in and say I’m worried about tar spot in corn for example,” she says. “From there, you can do a search and search all the products that may have a label for tar spot that we’ve evaluated. It’s then going to give you the tar spot rating.”

She tells Brownfield extension pathologists from across the country have worked together to build it.

“We run efficacy trials across our states looking at different products and their efficacy on the different diseases that may affect production,” she says. “Every year we get together and we reevaluate what we’ve seen and we give ratings to those products.”

Telenko says it is now available online through the Crop Protection Network.
