Export opportunities in Asia
A west central Ohio farmer recently returned from a trade mission exploring export opportunities in Asia.
Scott Haerr says buyers in Japan and Taiwan got to see what sets U.S. corn apart from it’s competitors.
“They want to know that the corn is sustainably grown and they like to hear the practices that US farmers are implementing to provide a sustainably grown product,” he says.
He tells Brownfield making that connection provides long term benefits to export growth.
“Hearing about that firsthand from the grower and getting to ask questions, I think there is value in that and they appreciate what only a grower can translate,” he says.
Haerr says as an Ohio grower, it is important to know what overseas customers look for in their products.
Japan and Taiwan are two of the largest buyers of U.S. corn.
