Extreme drought spreads across Tennessee

Dry weather in Tennessee is prompting livestock producers to start feeding hay early and conserve water.

USDA says corn condition is rated 44 percent good to excellent with 92 percent mature and 58 percent harvested.

Cotton in the state has 78 percent of bolls opening and three percent has been harvested.  USDA says the crop is rated 56 percent good to excellent.

Soybeans are 70 percent dropping leaves and 32 percent harvested. The crop’s condition is rated 46 percent good to excellent.

Tobacco plants are 72 percent cut while winter wheat is four percent planted.

Pastures are only 12 percent good to excellent.
