FAA plans to require registration for UAVs

A task force has been created to develop recommendations for a registration process for Unmanned Aircraft Systems. The task force is made up of a diverse cross-section of representatives from the UAS and manned aviation industries, the federal government, and other stakeholders.
Adam Sheller, director of sales for Precision Drone, an Indiana based company that manufactures drones for use by farmers, says he hopes the registration process is simple. “To where it’s just the name and address of the owner along with the serial number of the drone, and some sort of fee to register it,” he says.
The Federal Aviation Administration says reports of potentially unsafe UAS operations has increased significantly in the last year. FAA administrator Michael Huerta says registration will help make sure operators know the rules and remain accountable.
In addition – the task force will advise the department which aircraft should be exempt from registration due to a low safety risk.
Sheller says farmers should be included in that exemption. “They are the least likely to have an accident,” he says. “They are essentially flying over fields – so something does happen and one does go down the chance of it hitting anything is very low.”
The task force was directed to deliver its findings by November 20.
Why do you think Farmers should be excluded from this…..could they not fly one of these for fun….lets say in a Park…etc…..? It is like saying that guns should not be a problem for farmers because they only use them in open spaces……DA……! Permit them all….or none…..!
