Fall fieldwork in full swing as eastern Iowa harvest wraps up
Fall fieldwork is in full swing as harvest winds down in eastern Iowa.
Syngenta agronomic service representative Dalton Webster says farmers are making headway on tillage and applying burndown herbicides on no-till acres.
“I’ve seen a few guys that are, obviously with all the rain we had this year, they’re realizing how important drainage is. So there’s some tile going in the ground in spots.”
He tells Brownfield there should be an uptick in fall fertilizer applications as conditions allow.
“We’re just starting to get soil temperatures cool enough to start thinking about doing a lot of manure and anhydrous nitrogen applications here in the fall.”
Webster says some dry fertilizer is being applied as well.
