Farm bill extension more than likely, Sen. Grassley says
U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley says he expects another farm bill extension from Congress.
Grassley tells Brownfield there isn’t enough time to get a new five-year farm bill passed before the end of the year. “Just three weeks to go in September after Labor Day, and then we’re not meeting during October because of the presidential race.”
He says the legislation hasn’t been prioritized by Senate Ag Committee leadership. “I don’t have a solution because the chairwoman of the committee is not willing to do more on what I call sewing up the holes in the farm bill safety net.”
Grassley says a new five-year bill would help give producers some certainty amid higher input costs and low commodity prices. He spoke to Brownfield at the 2024 Iowa State Fair on Friday, August 9th.
